3600 Family Of Diesel EnginesDescription of Change: A new piston assembly is used in these engines. The new piston assembly consists of several replaceable components. Formerly, the pistons were serviced only as assemblies. Adaptable To: New new 121-4068 Piston Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 4P-0399 and 121-7555 Piston Assemblies. The former piston assemblies have been canceled. The new piston assembly is effective with 3606 (8RB582), 3608 (6MC486), 3612 (9RC189), 3616 (1PD240) and adaptable to all earlier diesel engines. The illustration and chart identify the serviceable components of the new 121-4068 Piston Assembly.

Stud Installation Procedure
1. Clean the threads in the 128-5641 Crown Assembly (1) and the threads on the 128-5639 Studs (4) with a degreaser or alcohol.2. Install the clean dry studs in the clean dry piston crown.3. Tighten the studs to a torque of 40 N m (30 lb ft).Piston Assembly Procedure
1. Install the 128-5635 O-Ring (2) on the 128-5634 Skirt (3).2. Install the piston crown and stud assembly on the skirt and O-ring seal.3. Put the 128-5636 Spacers (5) in position on the studs (4).4. Apply a light coat of 6V-4876 Molykote Paste Lubricant to the threads and contact areas of the 128-5637 Nuts (6).5. Install the nuts (6) on the studs (4). Tighten the all the nuts in crosswise order to a torque of 80 N m (59 lb ft).6. Loosen all nuts (6).7. Be sure all studs (4) are tightened to a torque of 40 N m (30 lb ft).8. Tighten the all the nuts in crosswise order to a torque of 15 N m (11 lb ft).9. After all the nuts have been tightened to 15 N m (11 lb ft), tighten each nut, in crosswise order, an additional 90 degrees.10. After all the nuts have been tightened, check to be sure each nut does NOT turn when a tightening torque of 55 N m (40 lb ft) is applied.
