Information:
Brake Pedal
Press the brake pedal down to slow or stop the machine.Release the pedal to release the brake.Parking Brake Control
Parking Brake Engaged - Pull the control out to engage the parking brake. Parking Brake Disengaged - Push the control in to disengage the parking brake.Secondary Brake
The parking brake also functions as a secondary brake. If the parking brake is engaged when the transmission selector is in any position other than Neutral, and the machine is moving, the tractor brakes will be applied at the same time. The secondary brake must be used if the service brake fails to stop the machine.Retarder Control (If Equipped)
The retarder control activates the retarder and controls the amount of retardation applied. The purpose of the retarder is to slow the machine without the need for continuous application of the service brakes. This reduces brake wear and overheating. The retarder control has four positions. Retarder Disengaged - The first position (1) is DISENGAGED. Push the control fully UP to disengage the retarder. Retarder Engaged - The other three positions are all ENGAGED positions.Pull the control down to position (2) for 50% retarder engagement.Pull the control down to position (3) for 75% retarder engagement.Pull the control down to position (4) for 100% retarder engagement.Do not change gear while the retarder is engaged.Check the transmission/retarder oil temperature gauge and indicator while the retarder is engaged. If the transmission oil overheats during retarder operation, use a lower gear next time the machine is driven down the same grade. The retarder operates in any transmission speed. The most effective speed depends on grade and the loaded state of the machine. If the engine overspeeds when travelling downgrade the transmission will automatically upshift to reduce engine speed irrespective of the position of the transmission control.Gearshift Lever
This lever controls the speed and direction of the transmission. The machine has five forward gears (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) and two reverse. The transmission control mechanism incorporates a Neutral lockout to prevent inadvertant shifting.Steering Column Adjustment
To adjust the steering column, pull the knob OUT and tilt the steering column to the desired position. Release the knob to lock the steering column in the desired position.Steering Controls
Steering of the machine is controlled by the steering wheel. The machine will turn in the same direction as the steering wheel is turned. The steering frame locks must be removed before the machine can be steered. Left Turn - Turn the steering wheel in a counterclockwise direction to steer the machine the left. Turn the steering wheel clockwise to straighten the machine. Right Turn - Turn the steering wheel in a clockwise direction to steer the machine to the right. Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise to straighten the machine.Turn the steering wheel slowly to make a slow turn. Turn the steering wheel faster to make a sharp turn. There is a speed of rotation at which the steering response is at its maximum. If the steering wheel is turned faster, the steering feels "heavy". This is a characteristic
