Quick coupler connections to the Implement ECMNote: When using the quick coupler to engage a work tool, always verify that the coupler wedges are engaged in the proper position to lock the work tool. Visually inspect the coupler wedge position or manipulate the tool in a manner that will confirm that the tool is locked in place. When the attachment Quick Coupler system is equipped on the machine, the Implement ECM will control the operation of the quick coupler. The Quick Coupler Installation Status must be set to "Installed" in the software using Cat ET. In addition, the Implement ECM parameter "Implement Tool Type" must be set to "Quick Coupler".The Implement ECM will use three solenoid valves to control the system. The solenoids are the Enable Solenoid Valve, the Engage Solenoid Valve, and the Disengage Solenoid Valve. The Disengage Solenoid is connected to an ON/OFF driver circuit. The Engage Solenoid and the Enable Solenoid are connected to ECM proportional driver circuits, however, the ECM will control all three solenoids as ON/OFF solenoids. The ECM will use the operator input from the quick coupler control button on the Keypad 8 to control the state of the coupler. The status of the button is communicated to the Monitoring System Display on the CAN A Data Link system. The Monitoring System Display will command the Implement ECM to engage or disengage the quick coupler. At engine start, the Implement ECM will remember the last known state of the quick coupler. The quick coupler will remain in that state unless the last known state is unknown. When the quick coupler is disengaged, the middle indicator by the keypad button will be illuminated. If the quick coupler state is unknown, the ECM will activate a Level 2, E919 event for "Quick Coupler Desired State Unknown". An unknown state can result initially when the quick coupler feature is set to "Installed" in the software. An unknown state can also result after new software is flashed to the ECM.If the quick coupler state is unknown, the function will be in a neutral state. All three solenoids will be de-energized.If the quick coupler state is unknown to the ECM, the operator must cycle through the possible states by repeatedly pressing the button. Once the desired coupler state (engaged or disengaged) is indicated, press and hold the button depressed for 2 seconds. When the button is held depressed, the ECM will enable quick coupler operation in the selected state. The UP and DOWN buttons on the monitoring system display can also be used to cycle through the coupler states. When the desired state is indicated, use the "OK"button to select. The quick coupler state can only be changed when the engine is in operation. the ECM will not allow the state of the quick coupler to change with the engine OFF.
