Articulated Trucks D400E Series II Ejector (APF)
Component Code(s) 6203-BJSUBJECT: Extension Plates Prevent Damage to the Ejector Blade
PROBLEM:
The ejector blade can over-stroke at either end of the body. This can result in the ejector blade jamming, which can cause damage.
SOLUTION:
Extension plates can be welded to both ends of the body in order to provide support for the ejector blade at the extreme limits of travel.
This solution is adaptable to machine numbers APF1 ? APF303.
Manufacture four extension plates for the front of the body. Use the dimensions given in illustration 1. Use Hardox 500 steel or a steel with similar yield strength and wear resistance properties. 10mm thick Hardox 500 has a minimum yield strength of 1300 N/mm2, an ultimate tensile strength 1550 N/mm2, a Brinell hardness of 450 ? 540 HB and an impact strength (Carpy-V notch) of 25J at ?40O C.
Manufacture two extension plates for the rear of the body. Use the dimensions given in illustration 2. Use Weldox 700 steel or a steel with similar yield strength and wear resistance properties. 20mm thick Weldox 700 has a minimum yield strength of 700 N/mm2, an ultimate tensile strength 780-930 N/mm2, a Brinell hardness of 260 HB and an impact strength (Carpy-V notch) of 40J at ?40O C.
Remove paint and dirt and weld the extension plates for the front of the body in position as shown in illustrations 3 and 4. Lateral positioning of the extension plates is not critical. Provide a full depth vee weld on both sides. Use electrodes to AWS E7018 or equivalent specification. Completely fill the joint with weld metal then grind the top face flush with the body. Paint the repair area when cool.
Remove paint and dirt and weld the extension plates for the rear of the body in position as shown in illustrations 5 and 6. Provide an 8mm fillet weld along the bottom edge (A) and completely fill the joint between the extension plate and the body floor with weld metal. Use electrodes to AWS E7018 or equivalent specification. Grind the top face of the extension plate flush with the body floor. Paint the repair area when cool.
