Introduction
CAESultra is software that is used on earthmoving equipment that will give the machine operator information about a task that needs to be performed. CAESultra can be used in the following applications:
Grade/slope control
Material handling
CompactionCAESultra allows the machine operator to view the machine's location. A color coded work plan is displayed in real time on a backlit display. As the operator works, the terrain and the machine's position information is updated by using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. This will provide continuous information about the operator's progress on a design plan. With the on-board display and electronically transmitted data, CAESultra will drastically improve production at night or at times when there is limited visibility.CAESultra is also designed in order to enhance site operations by providing management personnel with information on the status of the work and the productivity of the machines that are performing the work. In order to perform these site management functions, CAESultra works along with the following collection of tools:
METSmanager is software that converts various design file format types to CAESultra format. METSmanager also sends and receives data.
A radio network that will allow design file and data transfer between CAESultra and METSmanager.
Global Positioning System (GPS) technology that provides high accuracy machine position information.CAESultra can be used on the following machines:
Track-type tractors
Hydraulic front shovels
Cable or Rope shovels
Compactors
Motor graders
Wheel tractor scrapers
Wheel loaders
ExcavatorsWithout CAESultra
The process through which earthmoving machine operators receive information and instructions begins with a survey of the site, and the identification and location of natural and man-made structures. The planning engineer designs the project using this information. These designs are transferred to the field by another survey, with survey stakes located and marked at key locations. Field personnel and paper plans usually supplement the survey information. As the job progresses, additional surveys may be required in order to accomplish the following tasks:
Convey information onto the next phase.
Make changes to the current work.
Document the completed work against the plan. This conventional process is time consuming, expensive, and contains numerous opportunities for error. With CAESultra
By using CAESultra, an engineer will create a design file by using a site design software package. The METSmanager software translates this design file to "CAT" format, and then transmits the file to the earthmoving machine by using a radio network. The machine operator will then see the design file displayed on a backlit computer display that is installed in the machine. For a Track Type Tractor or another grade/slope application, the colors that are shown on the display will indicate where the terrain needs to be cut or filled. The colors that are shown will also show where the terrain is to grade. By default, red means cut, blue means fill, and green is to grade. For a shovel or another material/ore application the colors in the display will represent different grades of materials. For a compactor, the colors that are shown on the display indicate the amount of compaction that is performed by the machine. The colors that are shown on the display will
