EnginesDuring a crankshaft bearing failure, the crankshaft becomes very hot. This heat can change the hardness of the surface of crankshaft journals.
If the hardness is not in the specifications range and the crankshaft is reground to be used again, a failure is possible.

With the crankshaft in the same position it is in when the engine is at top dead center, check the hardness of the journals in two places, on their top and bottom....
