Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the cylinder head.
Remove the engine oil pump.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Turn the crankshaft until two pistons are at the bottom center position.

Remove nuts (1) and connecting rod cap (2) from the connecting rod.
Place rubber hose or tape over the threads of the connecting rod bolts. This will prevent damage to the crankshaft when the pistons are removed.
Illustration 2 g01957866Note: When you remove the pistons do not allow the connecting rods to hit the bottom of the cylinder liners or the crankshaft.
Push the piston and connecting rod away from the crankshaft until the piston rings are above the cylinder liner. Remove piston (3) and the connecting rod from the engine.
Keep each connecting rod cap with the respective connecting rod. Place identification marks on each connecting rod and the original location of the connecting rod.
Repeat Step 1 through Step 5 for the removal of the remaining pistons.
