PROBLEM
The existing trunnion support lip seals can create excessive pressure build up and cause the rear trunnion cover to crack on certain 992G Wheel Loaders and 854G Wheel Dozers. For the machines listed in this publication, it is possible that the 2735012/">273-5012 Lip Seals may have been installed incorrectly from the factory. The lip seals need to be installed as the drawing depicted below shows to allow grease to flow out of the bearing cavity when it is being lubed. If seals are installed with the lip seal installed incorrectly, it will not allow grease to flow properly out of the bearing lubrication cavity.

ACTION REQUIRED
A test may be performed to help determine if the seals are installed properly by viewing the grease flow past the lip seal. If grease flows out past the seal it is installed correctly and if there is no grease flow the seal will have to be removed and replaced with a new seal in the correct orientation depicted by the drawing.
Rework Instructions:
Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR5894, for Oscillating axle removal, disassembly, assembly and installation procedures. After removal and disassembly of the oscillating (rear) axle, remove the old 273-0712 Lip Seal and replace with new seals (3). IMPORTANT: See drawing for correct orientation of the lip seal in the trunnion support groove. The seal installer tool (FT3087) will assist assembly of the trunnion support assembly to the rear trunnion.
A seal installer is used to assist installing the trunnion support assembly to the rear trunnion. The seal is first installed to the rear trunnion support then the seal installer allows a temporary ramp for the rear trunnion support assembly to install easier over the rear trunnion diameter. With out the seal installer the lip may have a tendency to get caught up on the outer diameter edge of the rear trunnion. The seal installer is temporarily bolted to the rear trunnion with (2) 3/4 inch X 3 inch bolts.
