Starter Motor Relay connections (For Model 627H, the scraper starter motor is also energized by this circuit.)
This diagnostic code is associated with the relay for the starter motor. The FMI 05 diagnostic code means that the ECM has determined that the current of the relay circuit is below normal.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code are listed below:
The relay has failed.
The energize circuit of the relay is an open connection or the circuit has a bad connection.
The return circuit of the relay is an open connection or the circuit has a bad connection.
The Transmission/Chassis ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may cause other diagnostic codes to be activated. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected.Note: The coil resistance of the start relay should measure 27.5 3 ohms at 20 °C (68.0 °F). Test Step 1. CHECK THE RELAY
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the relay for the starter motor from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the relay, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire 306-GN(Green)) to contact 2 (wire J765-BU(Blue)).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the START position for a few seconds.
Observe the status of the CID 0444 FMI 05 diagnostic code. Expected Result:The CID 0444 FMI 05 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 0444 FMI 06 diagnostic code has been activated when the jumper wire is installed.Results:
YES - The CID 0444 FMI 05 diagnostic is no longer active. A CID 0444 FMI 06 becomes active when the jumper wire is installed. The relay is causing the problem.Repair: The relay has failed. Repeat this Test Step "CHECK THE RELAY" to verify the failure of the relay. Check the resistance of the relay coil. Measure the resistance from contact 1 to contact 2 on the relay connector. The resistance of a good relay coil should be 27.5 3 ohms at 20 °C (68.0 °F). The likely cause of this problem is a greater resistance of the relay coil.Replace the relay. Verify that the new relay corrects the problem.STOP
NO - The CID 0444 FMI 05 diagnostic remains active after the jumper wire has been installed. The jumper wire did not affect the status of the active diagnostic code.
