Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The current springs-gas for the canopy need to be replaced on the products listed below. The canopy is too heavy to for the springs to lift. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 12Mar2009 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.
? Move the machine to a smooth level surface. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
? The canopy must be in the full UP and locked position by latch (1).

Notice
The gas spring is under tension and caution must be taken during removal and installation.
? Remove Ball Stud (2) at the top of the old Gas Spring (3).

? Remove the Ball Stud at the bottom of Gas Spring (3).

? Mount the 280-3991 Ball Stud (4) on Gas Spring 332-0114 (5) and insert 280-3992 Clip (6).
? Mount the Gas Spring on canopy using Washer 8T-4121 (7).
? Repeat the procedure for the opposite end of the Gas Spring.
