WHEEL SCRAPER,
Information:
Pull the knob out for spring application of all four wheel brakes, if brake air pressure is lost and fault alarm sounds. Or if in danger of engine overspeed. Whenever an emergency stop is made due to any circumstance, recheck oil, fuel, air pressure, leaks, etc., and correct faults before attempting to move the machine. If brake release pressure cannot be obtained because engine will not start, see topic, "Manual Release of the Parking/Secondary Brake," under "Towing" to release the brake and move machine. Put blocks under wheels before leaving a disabled machine. If all air in secondary system is lost, the brakes will apply automatically, and remain applied.Emergency Stops
When parking on a slope, always block the wheels securely, lower the bowl to the ground and apply the parking/secondary brake, before leaving the machine unattended. After an emergency stop, do not operate the machine until a complete check has been made of the entire braking system and any necessary repairs have been made.
If the service brake fails to stop or slow the machine, push the parking/secondary knob in to apply the brake and drag the scraper bowl. The parking/secondary brake will apply automatically if the air pressure drops below 280 kPa (40 psi) in the reservoirs.Loading
Load on the level or on a slight uphill grade. Downhill loading results in material being forced against the elevator, causing carryover of the material.1. Reduce travel speed with the service brakes, or retarder, when approaching the cut. The transmission will downshift to 2nd speed automatically. 2. Move the cushion hitch lever to LOCK DOWN for a smooth cut and better control of the cutting edge.3. Move the ejector to the rear and close the door. 4. When the transmission downshifts to 2nd speed, push down the transmission hold pedal.5. Keep the engine rpm in the operating range. Start the elevator. Select the elevator speed to suit the material (fast speed for soft material, slow speed for hard or coarse material).6. Lower the bowl to an efficient cut depth for the material being loaded.7. The cut should be as deep as possible, and still allow the machine to move at a constant speed, without lugging the engine or causing excessive tire slip.Decrease depth of cut if the machine or engine lugs, or if the wheels slip.8. Lower the bowl to an efficient cut depth (shallow cut for hard material or deeper cut for soft material). 9. Do not force material into the bowl. Allow the elevator to sweep the material. 10. Hold the VCTC switch in when necessary for efficient loading, or when wheel slipping occurs.11. Use 1st speed if more torque is required at the wheels.
Do not attempt to turn the machine with the differential lock applied.
12. Use the differential lock to prevent one wheel from slipping. If the wheels slip in soft material, reduce the engine speed.
Do not engage the differential lock with one wheel spinning. Decrease engine rpm, until the wheel stops spinning, before depressing the pedal.
13. Gauge the most efficient depth
