Information:
08 means that the Machine ECM has determined that the signal frequency or the signal pulse width is not within the expected range. The position sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of 500 100 Hz. The optimal operating frequency is approximately 500 Hz. The position sensor sends a PWM input signal to the Machine ECM that will indicate the pedal position. The voltage of the signal ranges from 0.0 VDC to 5.0 VDC. The ECM will recognize a valid duty cycle range of 5 percent (0.25 V) when the pedal is not depressed to 95 percent (4.75 V) when the pedal is fully depressed. The FMI 08 means that the ECM has determined that the signal frequency of the position sensor is not within the accepted 400 Hz to 600 Hz range. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The sensor has failed.
Intermittent connections or poor connections in the sensor signal circuit.
The ECM has failed. This failure is unlikely.Note: If a CID 0041 diagnostic code for the ECM 8 V power supply has been activated by the Machine ECM (MID 039), the ECM will not activate a CID 2305 diagnostic code.Note: Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. This procedure should not require entry into any enclosures that contain hazardous voltage components and should not require any hazardous voltage connections to be disconnected. When an area that contains hazardous voltage components must be entered for a service procedure, the "Safe Shutdown Procedure for Electric Drive Tractors" procedure must be performed before any enclosures that contain hazardous voltage components are opened or before any hazardous voltage connectors are disconnected. Refer to the Troubleshooting, "Electrical Maintenance Guidelines" section of this manual. Perform the "Safe Shutdown Procedure for Electric Drive Tractors" procedure before any of the hazardous voltage areas are opened or before hazardous voltage connectors are disconnected.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SIGNAL AT THE SENSORTurn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the machine harness for the sensor connector, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the signal wire F790-BR and socket at contact C from the harness connector. The machine harness connector remains connected to the Travel Control Pedal position sensor connector.
At the back of the sensor connector, insert 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes along the sensor signal contact C and the return contact at B.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
Measure the frequency of the sensor signal. Measure the duty cycle of the sensor at the sensor connector contacts
