Illustration 2. Spherical cup face to be ground.In addition, guidelines have been established for wear and damage clearances for equalizer end pins, and bearings and cup bushings. These guidelines can be used to determine the reuse and/or replacement of the affected parts. Caterpillar recommends that if the vertical movement is less than 6 mm (.23"), no repair is required. Relubricate as shown in the maintenance guide and continue to operate. If vertical movement exceeds 6 mm (.23"), inspect for wear as follows.
1. Remove the pin and measure the wear step. If the wear step is 2.4 mm (.09") or greater, the pin should be rotated with minimal wear surface at the top of the joint. If reduction of pin diameter exceeds 4.8 mm (.19"), replace the pin. See Chart B for nominal dimensions of pins.2. Measure the bushing inside diameter. If wear exceeds 3 mm (.12"), replace the bushing. If bushing inside diameter is acceptable, check the clearance of the spherical diameter between the bushings and races. Replace the bushing if the clearance exceeds 3 mm (.12"). See Chart C for nominal dimensions of bushing inside diameters.3. After inspection, hand pack the spherical surfaces and bushing inside diameter with grease. Reassemble the pin and relube the joint as shown in the maintenance guide.
