Information:

All water is corrosive at engine operating temperatures. Use a Caterpillar coolant conditioner element to treat either plain water or ethylene glycol solution.Do not use both the liquid cooling system conditioner and the coolant conditioner element at the same time.Flush the cooling system if it is contaminated, if the engine overheats, or if contamination is observed in the radiator. When changing antifreeze solution, replace the maintenance conditioner element with the correct precharge element.
If coolant conditioner maintenance elements have been used regularly, the change period for engine coolant can be extended to 4000 hours or 2 years. When fresh engine coolant consisting of either plain water or water and antifreeze is installed, a precharge element should be installed for use until the first normal element change period. 1. Remove the radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure. 2. Remove the access cover and open the drain valve. Allow the coolant to drain. Close the drain valve. Install the access cover.3. Fill the engine radiator with cleaning solution. Use 1 kilogram (2 lb) sodium bisulfate per 40 liters (10 gal) of water.4. Start and run engine for 1/2 hour. Stop engine and drain cleaning solution.5. Flush system with clean water until draining water is clear. Do not run engine while flushing.6. Close drain valve. Fill system with neutralizer. Use a commercially available neutralizer or mix 250 g of sodium carbonate crystals per 40 liters of water (1/2 lb per 10 gal).7. Start and run engine for 10 minutes. Stop the engine and drain neutralizing solution.8. Flush system with clean water, until draining water is clear. Do not run engine while flushing.9. Close drain valve.Clean the Cooling System Relief Valve
Clean or replace the relief valve if the system overheats or loss of coolant is observed.1. Unlatch and open the hood to gain access to the valve.2. Remove the bolts from the valve and remove the valve assembly. 3. Inspect valve (1), valve seal (2) and gaskets (3). Replace the valve assembly, gasket and seals if they are damaged.4. Inspect the relief valve cover and mounting bolts.5. Install the relief valve cover and mounting bolts.Filling the Radiator
Use clean water that is low in scale forming minerals - not softened water. Measure the specific gravity of the antifreeze solution frequently in cold weather to ensure adequate protection.1. Change the coolant conditioner element. See the topic "Cooling System - Changing Coolant Conditioner Element" under "Every 250 Service Hours or Monthly."2. Mix the antifreeze solution to provide protection to the lowest expected outside temperature. See "Refill Capacities" chart. To help avoid air locks, add coolant slowly, at 20 liters (5 U.S. gallons) per minute or less. Fill the radiator to the indicator plate in the fill pipe.3. Start and run the engine with the radiator cap removed. Allow the coolant to warm and the level to stabilize. Add coolant if necessary. Stop the engine. Check for leaks. 4. Inspect the radiator cap gasket. Replace the gasket if it is damaged. Install the cap.Ejector, Guide and Carrier Rollers
