The glow plugs in the engine are sometimes necessary for cold weather starting. The engine may not start if the glow plugs are not operating correctly. The engine may also run rough in cold weather until the engine is warm.When the glow plugs are inspected look for the following conditions:
Loose wire connections or frayed wires
Blisters on the tip of the glow plug
Cracks or missing pieces on the tip of the glow plugThe heating element of the glow plug may also be burned out. This is not physically visible. An ohmmeter may be used to test the continuity of the glow plug.Replace the glow plug, if necessary.
