PROBLEM
The (24) 6V5686 Bolts securing the differential in the axle housing need to be inspected on certain 773F and 775F Off-Highway Trucks. If loose, these bolts will need to be tightened to a torque of 240 +/- 40 Nm. If the bolts are not tightened properly, the differential housing can loosen causing premature differential and axle housing failure.

It is not likely any of the bolts will be missing, therefore this PIP is for labor only to inspect and tighten any loose differential housing mounting bolts.

The differential housing mounting bolts need to be inspected and tightened if needed on the products listed below. The existing differential, axle or axle housing can loosen further causing misalignment and premature failure of these components. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 14Nov2007 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
The (24) 6V5686 Bolts securing the differential in the axle housing need to be inspected and tightened to 240 +/- 40 Nm.
For each truck reworked mark the position of the loose bolt(s) in the attached drawing. (Image1.2.1).
Send the details of serial no., hours, number of loose bolts and position of loose bolts mark in the drawing by e-mail to Gary Saxe (Saxe_Gary_B), Todd O'Brien (OBrien_Todd) and Hariharasuthan GB (GB_Hariharasuthan).
