Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Illustration 1 g00927795The suction screen for the transmission is located at the left rear of the transmission for the tractor.
Park the machine on level ground. Engage the parking brake.
Lower the trailer to the ground. Shut off the engine.
Clean the area around the housing for the suction screen.
Remove drain plug (1). Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Remove bolts (2) for the cover of the suction screen.
Remove cover (3).
Remove the suction screen. Clean the suction screen in nonflammable solvent.
Inspect the suction screen for damage. If the suction screen is damaged, replace the suction screen.
Install the suction screen.
Inspect the seal for the cover. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.
Clean the cover. Install the cover.
Clean the drain plug. Install the drain plug.
Start the engine.
Check the area around the screen housing for leaks.
Check the transmission oil level. Add oil, if necessary. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil Level - Check" for the proper procedure.
Stop the engine.
