D348, D349 Off-Highway Truck EnginesDescription of Change: A new oil filter assembly is used in the oil filter group on the above models. The new oil filter assembly uses a filter base which has reinforcement added around the center part of the base. This increases the strength of the base to prevent possible cracks if the case retainer bolt is tightened too tight. Formerly, some filter bases were broken when the retainer bolt was tightened to a higher torque than normally used. The correct torque for the 7S6636 Screw that holds the filter case to the filter base is 20 5 lbs ft (25 7 N m).Adaptable As: Direct replacement. The new 7N8417 Oil Filter Assembly can be used as a direct replacement for the former 6N1570 Oil Filter Assembly, which is canceled. Also, conversion of a former oil filter assembly to a new filter assembly can be made by installation of a new 7N8413 Oil Filter Base in place of the former 6N1569 Oil Filter Base, which is canceled.
