Operators must have had the proper training and operators must be capable in all aspects of the operation of the host machine and the operation of the platform. To comply with some local requirements, an operator must attain an operators license or a certificate.Before you operate your host machine or the platform, walk around the area and become familiar with the job site. Identify the hazards and unsafe conditions that may interfere with the safe operation of the machine or the platform.
Check the area for clearance. Check for both vertical clearance and for horizontal clearance.
Clear all obstacles from the path of the host machine. Clear all obstacles from the path of the platform. Check for the presence of overhead obstructions. Beware of hazards such as wires, poles, overhead obstacles, etc. Be aware of other vehicles or machines that work in the area.
Check for electrical power lines. Keep the host machine, the platform and the contents of the platform away from electrical power lines at least 8 m (25 ft).
