start by: a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governor1. Loosen alternator mounting bolt and adjustment bolt for belt tension. Push alternator toward engine to loosen belts. 2. Remove accessory drive gear cover, then remove nut (2) and washer (1) from gear. 3. Install tooling (B) on drive gear and loosen it from accessory drive shaft. 4. Remove all lines and hoses (4) from accessory drive housing (3). 5. Turn the engine until the four holes in the drive gear are in alignment with the four bolt heads that hold the accessory drive housing to the engine. Remove these four bolts and the accessory drive housing and shaft. 6. Remove fuel transfer pump (5). Remove sleeve (6). Remove shaft and bearing assembly (7). 7. Remove bearing (8) from shaft with tool (A).Install Accessory Driving Housing And Shaft
1. Install bearing on shaft with a press. Install bearing and shaft assembly (1) into accessory drive housing. 2. Put a new gasket on the fuel transfer pump (2) and in the pump in the housing. Install sleeve (3) on housing.3. Install a new gasket where the accessory drive housing fastens to the timing gear plate. Put accessory drive housing and shaft in position on the engine. Install the four bolts through the holes in the drive gear. Connect all lines and hoses to accessory drive housing.4. Put No. 1 piston at top center (TC) compression position. For correct method see INSTALL FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR AS A UNIT.5. Turn accessory drive shaft until tool (A) can be installed. Install washer on drive shaft so outside diameter makes contact with the gear first. Install nut and tighten it to a torque of 100 10 lb.ft. (135.6 13.6 N m). Remove tool (A). Install drive gear cover.6. Install belts on pulley. Make an adjustment to the belts so 25 lb. (11.3 kg) force made on the belts half way between the pulleys will cause a restriction of movement between 1/2 to 3/4 in. (12.7 to 19.1 mm) on new belts and 7/8 in.
