EXCAVATOR,
Information:
neutral coast function restricts coasting at high speed. Coasting in neutral reduces transmission life. If the shift lever is moved from any gear into the NEUTRAL position and the machine is moving more than 5 km/h (3.1 mph) the Power Train/Chassis Electronic Control Module (ECM) will not shift the transmission into neutral. If the ground speed is less than 5 km/h (3.1 mph) the transmission will shift into the NEUTRAL position. The neutral coast function is enabled at all times. If the truck is coasting and the shift lever is in neutral, the retarder will apply the brakes at a fixed rate. The ground speed of the machine will determine the rate that the retarder is applied. There are four levels of braking that are activated at the following speeds:
Level 1 activation point 12 km/h (7.4 mph)
Level 2 activation point 13 km/h (8.0 mph)
Level 3 activation point 14 km/h (8.7 mph)
Level 4 activation point 15 km/h (9.3 mph)The braking effort increases to set values as the ground speed increases to set points. Whenever the machine is being coasted in neutral above 12 km/h (7.4 mph), the ECM will command the engine to raise the engine speed to 1350 rpm until the ground speed returns to below 5 km/h (3.1 mph). A coasting in neutral event is logged when the ground speed exceeds 12 km/h (7.4 mph). The speed must drop to below 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and then return to above 12 km/h (7.4 mph) before another event can be logged.Note: It is possible for an operator to bypass the restrictions for coasting at high speed in neutral. However, if ground speed is greater than 12 km/h (7.4 mph) and the transmission is in neutral, a Coasting In Neutral event is recorded and available for examination with the use of a service tool. See the topic Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Tattletale Function".
