Change Oil
1. Remove the filler cap to prevent a vacuum in the transmission tank. Install the cap, to prevent dirt from entering the system. 2. Remove the transmission tank drain valve plug. Open the drain valve by installing a 25 mm (1 inch) NPT pipe nipple, 100 mm (4 inches) long, in the bottom of the tank drain, to open the internal drain valve. drain the oil.3. Remove the pipe nipple and install the drain plug. 4. Remove the drain plug from the transmission and the extension housing and drain the oil. Clean and install drain plugs.Wash Magnetic Screens
1. Remove the cover. 2. Remove wave washer (1), Remove screen (2), magnet and tube assembly (3).
Do not drop or rap magnets against hard objects. Damage to the magnet could occur.
3. Remove magnet from tube assembly.4. Wash the magnet, screen and tube assembly in clean, nonflammable solvent. Clean the magnets with a cloth, stiff brush or pressure air.5. Install the clean magnet and tube assembly, screen and wave washer.6. Inspect the seal in the housing. Replace it if it is damaged.7. Install the cover.Clean Filler Cap and Screen
1. Remove the transmission hydraulic tank filler cap.2. Remove the transmission filler screen retaining ring.3. Remove the screen. Wash the filler cap and screen in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow them to dry.4. Inspect the seal. Use a new seal if the used one is damaged.5. Install the filler screen and the retaining ring.Fill Transmission Tank
1. Fill the transmission tank. See "Refill Capacities."2. Start the engine and run it at low idle. Check for leaks.3. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge. Add oil if necessary. Install the filler cap.Air Dryer (If Equipped)
Change Desiccant
The air dryer is located behind the front wheel on the left side of the machine. The desiccant cartridge should be rebuilt or replaced when it can no longer absorb water.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for repair kits and instructions.Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS)
Inspect ROPS/Tighten Bolts
1. Inspect for any loose or damaged bolts. Replace damaged bolts or missing bolts with original equipment parts only. Tighten bolts to a torque of 720 25 N m (530 20 lb ft). Apply oil to all ROPS bolt threads before installing. Failure to apply oil can result in improper bolt torque.2. Replace ROPS mounting supports if the ROPS rattles or makes a noise when the machine is operated on a rough surface.Do not straighten or repair by welding reinforcement plates to the ROPS.Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair of cracks in welds, castings or any metal section on the ROPS.Front and Rear Service Brakes
