The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
There have been reports of the oil filler caps that are loose or missing from the filler tubes. The part numbers of the current filler caps are listed in Table 1.

If the oil filler cap detaches from the tube, follow the instructions that are listed below:

Remove the cap and the tube from the engine. Do not use a new oil filler tube and a new filler cap unless the filler cap does not have a chain. Replace a damaged filler cap. Refer to damaged filler cap (1) in Illustration 1 or damaged filler cap (3) in Illustration 2. The first cap without a chain is 068-4497 Filler Cap . Use 260-4810 Filler Cap As in order to replace the 068-4497 Filler Cap . The second cap without a chain is 5L-2952 Filler Cap As . Use 6G-9333 Filler Cap in order to replace the 5L-2952 Filler Cap As .
Shorten the chain on all cap assemblies to 90 mm (3.5 inch). Ensure that the cap and/or chain do not interfere with the engine or chassis components.Note: The 260-4810 Filler Cap As has a chain that is 90 mm (3.5 inch).
Tap the inside of the oil filler tube to the depth of the rubber on the cap. Refer to Table 2 in order to find the proper tap to use for each tube.
Install the clip 12.70 mm (0.5 inch) from the top of the tube. Refer to Illustration 3. Refer to Table 3 for the parts that are required to assemble the clip. Refer to Illustration 4 for the final assembly of the clip.
