Turn the disconnect switch and key switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the switch from the machine harness.
Connect a lead from a multimeter to pin 1 on the connector for the switch.
Connect the other lead from a multimeter to pin 2 on the connector for the switch.
Rotate the switch through all 10 positions. Per Table 1 above, there should be continuity when the switch is in Positions 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, and 10. All other positions should indicate an open.
Remove the multimeter lead from pin 2. Attach the multimeter lead to pin 3.
Rotate the switch through all 10 positions. Per Table 1 above, there should be continuity when the switch is in Positions 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10. All other positions should indicate an open.
Remove the multimeter lead from pin 3. Attach the multimeter lead to pin 4.
Rotate the switch through all 10 positions. Per Table 1 above, there should be continuity when the switch is in Positions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. All other positions should indicate an open.
Remove the multimeter lead from pin 4. Attach the multimeter lead to pin 5.
Rotate the switch through all 10 positions. Per Table 1 above, there should be continuity when the switch is in Positions 8, 9, and 10. All other positions should indicate an open.Expected Result:The continuity checks for the switch agree with Table 1 above.Results:
OK - The continuity checks for the switch agree with the Table. The switch is good. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The continuity checks for the switch do not agree with the Table. The switch has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor. Verify that the new switch corrects the diagnostic code.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE MACHINE HARNESS.
The disconnect switch and the key switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 connectors at the machine ECM.
Place a jumper wire from pin 1 to pin 2 of the machine harness connector for the switch.
