Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Use a suitable container to catch any fuel that might spill. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately.
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.

(1) Vent screw on fuel filter
(2) Vent screw on the fuel injection pump Use the following procedure to remove air from the fuel system.
Loosen vent screw (1) on the fuel filter.
Operate the hand primer until fuel that is free from air flows from the vent screw. Tighten vent screw (1).
Loosen vent screw (2) on the fuel injection pump.
Operate the hand primer until fuel that is free from air flows from the vent screw. Tighten vent screw (2).
Attempt to start the engine with the electric starting motor for a maximum of 15 seconds. If the engine does not start, wait for 30 seconds before attempting to start the engine again. After the engine has started, check all the fuel lines and the components for leaks.
