Assembly Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the assembly procedure, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Install poppet (12), spring (11), retainer (10), and retaining ring (9) into relief spool (6), as shown.

Install spring (8), spacers (7), and relief valve (6) into relief valve (1), as shown.

The following steps outline the procedure for determining the correct number of spacers to be installed in the relief valve.
Attach the relief valve to the test stand. Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 48 4 N m (35 3 lb ft).
Supply oil at a rate of 132.5 .8 L/min (35 0.2 US gpm) to the relief valve.
Maintain a pressure of 552 34 kPa (80 5 psi) at the inlet of the relief valve. Add the spacers or remove the spacers in order to maintain the specified flow of oil.
Use two bolts (4) and the lock washers in order to install cover (5) and the O-ring seal onto relief valve (1). Tighten two bolts (4) to a torque of 48 7 N m (35.4 5.2 lb ft).

If necessary, install the plugs and the O-ring seals onto relief valve (1).
Install nipple assembly (2) and the O-ring seal onto relief valve (1). Install dust cap (3) onto nipple assembly (2). End By:
Install the relief valve (torque converter outlet). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Install".
