Which Generate This Code:This fault is indicated when the ECM detects a short to the +battery wire. The short is in the path from the control to the solenoid. If the shorted condition exists, the control shifts the machine to neutral instead of the selected direction. Connector contact 31 relates to this fault.Note: The following steps may create other indicated faults. Clear these faults when the original fault is corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn the start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the faulty solenoid from the machine harness.
Turn the key switch to the ON position.
Place the direction lever in the NEUTRAL position.
At the harness connector for the solenoid, measure the voltage from the control. Measure the voltage between contacts 1 and 2.Note: This procedure causes the ECM to indicate an open circuit for this solenoid. Clear this code from the control after troubleshooting.Expected Result:The voltage is equal to the battery voltage.Results:
NO - Repair: The solenoid is faulty. Replace the solenoid. Stop.
YES - The voltage is equal to battery voltage. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS
Turn the start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the harness connector from the control.
Turn the start switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage at the harness connector for the control. Measure the voltage between contact 2 and the contact for the faulty solenoid circuit.Expected Result:The voltage is equal to the battery voltage.Results:
YES - There is a short to the +battery line in the machine harness.Repair: Fix the harness or replace the harness. Stop.
NO - The voltage is approximately 0 DCV. Proceed to step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE FAULT REMAINS
Turn the start switch to the OFF position.
Inspect the harness connectors.
Reconnect the harness connectors.
Turn the start switch to the ON position.
Enter the service mode.
Operate the machine.
Check if the same fault is active.Results:
YES - The fault has not been corrected. Repair: Perform the previous steps. If the cause of the fault is not found, replace the control. Stop.
NO - The fault does not exist at this time. The fault was probably caused by a poor electrical connection. Resume normal machine operation. Stop.
