VIMSTM and Product LinkTM circuitsThere are problems that could be both reported and caused by Product LinkTM. The problems are described as "The diagnostic information or events are not received at the office". The following must be operating properly for Product Link to operate:
PL121SR radio
VIMSTM 3G ECM
Antenna
CablesProduct Link depends on several communication links to transfer data from the machine to the office. The following procedures assume that these communication links are operating properly as follows:
The satellite network for VHF communications is operational in the geographic area of concern. The network is operational when messages can travel to the satellite and to Caterpillar® on earth.
Product Link is correctly configured to communicate on the VHF communications network.
The worldwide network of Cat® computers is passing messages to software for the Cat Equipment Manager (EM).
The EM is configured properly and the software is functioning.The PL121SR radio or the PL300 module should not be replaced without verifying that the communication links are operating properly. Contact your Technical Communicator for aid in resolving these issues.Product Link can be configured to transmit diagnostics and events to the office. These transmissions depend on the Product Link configuration. The following troubleshooting steps assume that the position and the standard report are being received. Perform the following steps to troubleshoot Product Link.

1. Check for Diagnostic Codes    
Codes:
* No codes    
OK - No codes are present.
STOP
Not OK - A code is present.
Go to Step 2.    
2. Check Connections
A. Verify that all circuit connections are good.    
Connections are:
* Clean
* Secure
* In good condition    
OK - Connections are good.
Go to Step 3.
Not OK - A connection problem exists.
Repair:
1. Correct all connection problems.
2. Verify that the problem is corrected.
STOP    
3. Check Voltage at the ECM
A. Check for system voltage at the VIMS ECM.    
Voltage:
* System voltage 0.5 VDC    
OK - Voltage is correct.
Go to Step 4.
Not OK -
Voltage is not correct.
Repair:
1. Correct the voltage problem.
2. Verify that the problem is corrected.
STOP    
4. Check the Hardware
A. Visually inspect the following hardware:
* PL121SR radio
* VIMS 3G ECM
* Antenna
* Cables
B. Verify the data link related hardware and software part numbers (1).    
Hardware:
* No apparent damage
* Correct part numbers    
OK - Hardware checks OK.
Go to Step 5.
Not OK - Hardware is damaged.
Repair:
Replace the damaged hardware.
STOP
Not OK - Incorrect part numbers exist.
Repair:
A. An ECM has the wrong part number:
1. Replace the ECM (2).
2. Flash the correct software (3).
B. An ECM has the incorrect software part number installed:
1. Flash the correct software (3).
STOP    
5. Access Product Link With Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET)
A. Connect Cat ET to the machine.
B. Verify that the VIMS ECM is available.    
ECM:
* Available on Cat ET    
OK - The ECM is available.
Go to Step 6.
Not OK - The ECM is not available.
Repair:
A. Verify that the Product Link Product Link / VIMS ECM system wiring has been installed correctly (4).
STOP
