The transmission AUTO/MANUAL switch sends two inputs to the transmission electronic control module (ECM). One input is normally open (N/O), and one is normally closed (N/C). During normal operation, one input is open and the other input is closed. A diagnostic code is recorded by the transmission ECM, when both switch inputs are open. A diagnostic code is recorded by the transmission ECM, when both switch inputs are closed. The CID 0368 FMI 02 is displayed when this failure occurs. The connector is located behind the front panel below the steering wheel.Note: Ensure that the desired diagnostic code CID 0368 FMI 02 is active.Note: The diagnostic code should not be present immediately after the key start switch is turned ON. The transmission ECM waits for 30 seconds, before the diagnostic code is recorded.Test Step 1. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT OF THE HARNESS.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the transmission ECM.
Measure the resistance between these contacts: contact 2 of the transmission ECM, contact 2 of the transmission AUTO/MANUAL switch and frame ground.Expected Result:The resistance should be less than 5000 ohms for all measurements.Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms for all measurements. Proceed to test step 2.
NO - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms for one or more of the measurements. The harness has failed.Repair: The wire 202-BK-18 has an open. Repair the wire or replace the wire. Stop.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SWITCH.
Reconnect the machine harness to the ECM.
Disconnect the machine harness from the auto/manual switch.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Ensure that the diagnostic code is active.
Place a jumper wire between the 973-BR-18 at the switch harness connector and the 202-BK-18 at the switch harness connector.Expected Result:The status of the diagnostic code is NOT active after the jumper wire is installed.Results:
OK - The status of the diagnostic code is NOT active after the jumper wire is installed. The switch has failed.Repair: Repeat this step in order to verify that the switch has failed. Replace the switch. Stop.
NOT OK - The diagnostic code remains active after the jumper wire is installed. Proceed to test step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE "N/C" SIGNAL WIRE.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove the jumper wire from the previous test.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
Place the AUTO/MANUAL switch in the AUTO position.
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance between these contacts: contact 2 and contact 20.Expected Result:The resistance should be less than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The resistance in the "N/C" circuit is correct. Proceed to test step 4.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The "N/C" circuit has failed.Repair: Repair the wire or replace the wire. Stop.Test Step 4. CHECK THE "N/O" SIGNAL WIRE.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
