Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To help prevent possible injury or death, refer to the information in Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect brake cooling hose assemblies (1) and (2) from the wheel brake assembly.
Use two 6V-9833 Cap Assemblies in order to block the brake cooling ports of the wheel brake assembly.
Connect an air pressure regulator with an 8T-0862 Pressure Gauge (-100 TO 500-KPA (-15 TO 72-PSI)) to pressure tap (3) on the wheel brake assembly.
Adjust the air pressure regulator to a maximum pressure of 138 kPa (20 psi).Note: Do not exceed this pressure.
Pressurize the brake assembly to 138 kPa (20 psi). Record this pressure. Turn off the air supply.
After five minutes, check the pressure on the pressure gauge. The pressure on the pressure gauge should be equal to the pressure that was recorded in Step 5.
When the test is complete, remove the test equipment. Connect brake cooling hose assemblies (1) and (2) to the wheel brake assembly.
Repeat Step 1 through Step 7 for the other wheel brake assemblies.The following list contains potential causes of leakage.
Duo-cone seal leakage.
Leaking O-ring seal.
Porosity in the wheel brake assembly.
