Universal Warning Plate
A warning plate is installed in the cab or the operators compartment of each machine. There are two different warning plates, either a 5P8197 Universal Warning Plate (square) or a 5P9466 Universal Warning Plate (rectangle) will be installed on each machine. The purpose of the warning plate is to make reference to the machine Operator's Guide. The Operator's Guide gives complete instructions for correct and safe operation of the machine. The operator must read and understand all of the instructions before machine operation.

A literature compartment has been added to the operator's station of all new machines for the storage of the Operator's Guide. To make sure the guide is not removed, it is attached to the machine with a lanyard (vinyl covered wire). A safety manual from the Construction Industry Manufacturer's Association (CIMA) is also sent with each machine. This manual is to be kept in the literature compartment with the Operator's Guide.

A warning has been added to all machine lubrication plates to tell how important correct lubrication, maintenance and repairs are for correct machine performance. The warning says that the person that does lubrication, maintenance and/or repair service must be sure that he has the needed skill and information, correct tools and equipment and that his method of work is safe and correct. The warning also states that Caterpillar Dealers are available to give service and information to machine owners.
Warnings In Guides And Service Manuals
Additional safety warnings have been included in machine Operator's Guides, Lubrication and Maintenance Guides and Service Manuals. A label like this is shown above each safety warning. A warning of this type is used with any operation, maintenance or repair procedure where personnel need to use extra care and attention to make sure the procedure is done safely and correctly.

These notices give general safety precautions and procedures an operator-and-serviceman must know before machine operation or repair.
Assembly Warning Tags
Machines shipped from the factory disassembled have an Assembly Warning Tag fastened to each major component. The tag gives the warning that people must not attempt machine assembly until they read and understand the assembly instructions. These tags are used only when the specific Special Instruction that covers the assembly of that machine model is available. The warning tag is resistant to water, dirt and lubricants and is printed in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, German and Japanese.
