Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Do not drain the oil when the engine is cold. As the oil cools, suspended waste particles settle on the bottom of the oil pan. The waste particles are not removed with the draining cold oil. Drain the crankcase with the engine stopped. Drain the crankcase with the oil warm. This draining method allows the waste particles that are suspended in the oil to be drained properly.Failure to follow this recommended procedure will cause the waste particles to be recirculated through the engine lubrication system with the new oil.Interval for Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter Change

The type of oil pan
The refill capacity for engine oilRefer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fluid Recommendations" for information about which fluids are recommended.Note: The intervals for the engine oil and filter change assume that recommended fluids are being used. If recommended fluids are not used, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Severe Service Application" for information about adjusting the interval.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Service Tool Catalog" or refer to Special Publication, PECJ0003, "Cat Shop Supplies and Tools Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
