Press "SETUP", "5"    This option allows the user to toggle the "SERVICE MODE" from OFF to ON and vice versa. Access to this option depends on the password that is set in the ET. A password may be required in order to turn ON the "SERVICE MODE". Follow the procedure that is listed below in order to turn ON the "SERVICE MODE":
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Press the "SETUP" key in order to enter the "ID MENU".Note: The VIDS allows the option of not requiring a password. If the password is set to zero in ET V 3.0 or later, the VIDS will not require a password in order to enter service mode.

ON        Setting the Password for Service Mode
The password for the "SERVICE MODE" may be viewed with the Caterpillar Electronic Technician software and the "SERVICE MODE" can be set with the Caterpillar Electronic Technician software. Follow the procedure that is listed below in order to view the password and / or to change the password:
Connect the service tool (Caterpillar Electronic Technician V 3.0 or later software) to the machine's CAT data link connector.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Start the Caterpillar Electronic Technician.
Start communications with the VIDS ECM.
Click on the "CONFIGURATION" option of the "SERVICE" pull down menu. The following screen will be displayed on the service tool:

Highlight the "Service Mode Enable Code" and click on the "Change" push button. This action displays the "Change Parameter Value" window.
Type the desired password into the "New Value"
