Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine side guards on the right side of the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Side Guards - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch".

Loosen clamp (3). Remove bolts (2). Position muffler (1) to the side.
Remove bolts (5) and elbow (4) .

Disconnect hoses (6), (7), and (8) .

Disconnect tube assembly (9) .

Disconnect hose assembly (10). Support turbocharger (12) and remove nuts (11). Remove turbocharger (12) .Installation Procedure

Position turbocharger (12). Apply Tooling (A) to nuts (11) and install nuts (11). Connect hose assembly (10) .

Connect tube assembly (9) .

Connect hoses (6), (7), and (8). Tighten the hose clamps to a torque of 7.5 1 N m (66.30 8.8 lb in).

Position elbow (4). Install new bolts (5) .
Position muffler (1) and tighten clamp (3). Install bolts (2) .
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch".End By: Install the engine side guards on the right side of the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Side Guards - Remove and Install".
