Removal Procedure
Do not use a wire rope cable that is kinked, frayed or has worn spots.Wear gloves when handling the wire rope cable.
Lower the boom to the ground and support the boom. Make sure that the hook sheave is on the ground.

Remove clamp (5).
Remove the wedge and cable from pocket (6).
Wind drum (1) (not shown) in order to remove the cable from sheaves (4), (7), (3), and (2).
Unwind the cable from drum (1) (not shown).

Remove wedge (8) and the cable from drum (1). Installation Procedure
Do not use a wire rope cable that is kinked, frayed or has worn spots.Wear gloves when handling the wire rope cable.
Use 6 x 25 filler wire, preformed; right Lang lay, with an independent wire rope core. The wire cables are to have a minimal breaking strength of 18688 kg (41200 lb).

Unroll all of the hook winch cable from the spool. Lay the cable on a flat surface. Never lift the cable off the spool in coils.
Unroll the new cable from the spool.

The winch drum for the hook load line is located below the winch drum for the boom. The winch drum for the hook load line does not show in the photo illustration.
Insert the end of the cable upward through the slot in drum (1). Form a loop and insert the cable end downward through the slot. Insert wedge (8) into the loop in the cable. Pull the cable in order to seat the wedge and the cable in the pocket.
Wind one half of the cable evenly across drum (1).

Install the hook load line from drum (1) (not shown) onto the sheave blocks in the following manner:
Install the cable from drum (1) (not shown) under sheave (2).
Install the cable over sheave (3). Sheave (3) is toward the front of the machine.
Install the cable around sheave (7).
Install the cable over sheave (4). Sheave (4) is toward the rear of the machine.
Insert the cable downward into pocket (6) and around the wedge. Then, pull the cable end upward through pocket (6).
For standard 6 to 8 strand wire rope, extend the end of the cable by a minimum of 6 rope diameters, but not less than 15 cm (6 inch).
For rotation resistant wire rope, extend the end of the cable by a minimum of 20 rope diameters, but not less than 15 cm (6 inch).
The proper location of the cable, the wedge, and clamp (5) is critical due to the loads upon this joint. Refer to illustration 5. Install clamp (5). Make sure that the cable, the wedge, and clamp (5) are located properly.
