Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Use Tooling (D) in order to install inner lip seals (15). Install the seals with the sealing lip to the outside of the bore. Drive the lip seals until contact is made with the end of the bore.
Lower the temperature of the bearing.
Use Tooling (D) in order to install bearings (14). Position the bearings 9.5 0.8 mm (0.37 0.03 inch) below the outside surfaces of the stick.
Use Tooling (D) in order to install outer lip seals (13). Install the seals with the sealing lip toward the outside of the bearing bore. Drive the lip seals until contact is made with bearings (14) .

Use Tooling (D) in order to install inner lip seals (12). Install the seals with the sealing lip toward the outside of the bearing bore. Drive the lip seals until contact is made with the end of the bore.
Lower the temperature of the bearing.
Use Tooling (D) in order to install bearings (11). Position the bearings 9.5 0.8 mm (0.37 0.03 inch) below the outside surfaces of the stick.
Use Tooling (D) in order to install outer lip seals (10). Install the seals with the sealing lip to the outside of the bearing bore. Drive the lip seals until contact is made with bearings (11) .
Apply Tooling (E) onto the bearing bores and the lip seals.

Attach a suitable lifting device to stick (1) .
Position stick (1) into position.
Install pin assembly (9) temporarily.
Position the stick to one side in order to measure the clearance between the fore boom and the stick. The clearance must not be more than 0.80 mm (0.032 inch).
If shims are needed remove pin assembly (9). Divide the measured thickness in half in order to install shims on both sides of the stick. Install pin assembly (9) .

Install bolt (8). Tighten to a torque of 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft).
Lower the stick (1) to the ground.

Attach a suitable lifting device to stick cylinder (4) .
Connect hose assembly (6) .
Install pin assembly (5) .

Connect hose assemblies (3) .
Raise fore boom (2) and stick (1) in order to remove Tooling (A) .End By:
Install the bucket linkage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Linkage - Install".
