Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Inspect the bearings in the rocker arms for wear. Note: The new service replacement for the rocker arm assembly will require machining. Consult your local Caterpillar dealer for specific instructions.
Inspect the shaft for wear.
Ensure that the lubrication passages in the rocker arms and the rocker arm shaft are not restricted.
Install a new O-ring seal on the rocker arm. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal.

Install button (1) on the rocker arm.

Put clean engine oil on rocker arm shaft (5) and the rocker arm bearings.
Install rocker arm (8), rocker arm (7), and rocker arm (6) in the original positions on the rocker arm shaft.
Put plate (2) in position on the end of the rocker arm shaft. Install bolts (3) that hold plate (2) in position.
Install bolts (4) in the rocker arm shaft. End By:
Install the valve mechanism. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism - Install".
