C-16 7CZ00418-UPThe Bendix DuraFlo 596 air compressor is a two cylinder air compressor. The Bendix DuraFlo 596 replaces the former Bendix TuFlo 1400 four cylinder air compressor. The displacement of the Bendix DuraFlo 596 air compressor is 0.764 CMM (27 CFM) at 1250 rpm. While the output volume is similar to the Bendix TuFlo 1400 the DuraFlo 596 is 152.40 mm (6 inch) shorter. The size of the DuraFlo 596 is comparable to the TuFlo 750. With the extensive use of aluminum, the DuraFlo 596 weighs 22.7 kg (50 lb). The TuFlo 1400 weighs 43.5 kg (96 lb). The DuraFlo 596 has a naturally aspirated air supply unlike the TuFlo 1400 which has a boosted air supply. The durability and the reliability of the DuraFlo 596 reduces maintenance costs. The DuraFlo 596 air compressor has three subassemblies:
A cast iron cylinder block
A steel valve body
An aluminum cylinder headThe Duraflo 596 air compressor also has these features:
Aluminum pistons that have two compression rings and one oil ring
Aluminum connecting rods have removable bearing caps. Wrist pins have machined journals with a replaceable bushing in the connecting rod.
The cast iron crankshaft has machined journals with a double roll ball bearing that is replaceable on the driven side. The cover for the rear end is replaceable.
The intake check valves and the discharge valves are reed valves.
The air compressor is lubricated by the lubrication system of the engine.
The air compressor has an unloading system that conserves energy. When the air compressor is in the unloaded mode the power requirements for the air compressor are reduced by approximately 80 percent.
