1/2Ever wish you had a big wrench for those hard to get at places, and then once you are on the bolt or nut, you do not have enough strength to turn the wrench? An 8T9141 Offset Sledging Wrench with a 11/2" box end and a 3/4" square drive is available for torque-turn requirements in situations like this. Use this wrench in applications where 1" diameter bolts (11/2" hexagonal heads or nuts) lack adequate clearance for sockets or torque multipliers.
This offset wrench can be used in a nesting of 1" diameter bolts, even in the overhead position. Some other uses-the axle wishbone-to-balljoint connection with the frame on 777B and 785 Trucks and 776B Tractors, and ROPS bolts on the right front corner of the cab, and front suspension mounting bolts and nuts on the 700 Series of off highway trucks and tractors.
The new offset sledging wrench. The extension length is used in calculations when 3/4" square drive torque wrenches are used.Several Caterpillar 3/4" square drive torque wrenches can be attached to the wrench. A specified torque is first applied, followed by sledging (hitting) the wrench with a 2 kg (4 lb) or heavier hammer until the bolt head or nut turns a specified number of flats or degrees. This is known as the torque-turn tightening method, and should be used only where specified in the Service Manual.
A slide rule-type torque computer, SEHS7150, is available to determine the torque wrench reading for different extensions. The extension length of this sledge wrench is shown in the illustration, and is measured from the center of each opening in the end.
