Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Test
Position the machine on level ground.
Stop the engine.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
Install the following tools in accordance with Illustration 1.
Disconnect pump hose (8) from elbow (9) of relief valve (10) .
Install tee (7) to elbow (9) .
Connect pump hose (8) to tee (7) .
Install the following tools: nipple (6), coupler assemblies (3), hose assembly (4), nipple (2) and pressure gauge (1). Refer to Illustration 1.
Start the engine.
Place the machine controls at the following settings: Power Mode, engine speed dial "10" and AEC switch OFF.Note: The engine will not reach maximum no-load speed until the hydraulic tank pressure reaches the operation level.Reference: Make reference to Testing And Adjusting, "Operational Checks" for engine rpm settings.
Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° 5°C (131° 9°F).
Read the relief valve pressure setting for the fan pump at pressure gauge (1). The relief valve pressure setting should be 17200 490 kPa (2490 70 psi).Adjust
In order to adjust the relief valve pressure setting for the fan pump, loosen locknut (13) and turn adjustment plug (12) until the reading at pressure gauge (1) is 17200 490 kPa (2490 70 psi).Note: Turning adjustment plug (12) clockwise increases the pressure. Turning adjustment plug (12) counterclockwise decreases the pressure.
Tighten locknut (13) to a torque of 60 6 N m (44 4 lb ft).Note: Always make final pressure adjustments on pressure rise.
