Park the machine on smooth and level ground.
Turn the parking brake and ladder switchON. Stop the engine.
Release the pressure in the hydraulicsystem.
Turn the battery disconnect switches tothe OFF position.
Tip up the cab.
Valve Installation:
Disconnect the two harnesses from thegate control valve.
Remove the gate control valve by removingthe four socket head mounting bolts on top of the valve.
Installation of 1981869 Valve Group
Install the 198-1869 Valve Gp betweenthe valve manifold and the pressure reducing valve. Use four 161-6154 O-ringSeals at each valve interface (12 total).
Loosen the large nuts on both ends ofthe solenoids and rotate the connector towards the front of the machine.Re-tighten the nuts after rotating the connectors.

Make sure that the hydraulics for thevertical gate cylinder circuit are installed correctly. Port "A" on the165-7276 Vertical Gate Control Valve, 165-7277 Pressure Reducing Valve,and 198-1869 Line Relief Valve should be connected to the head ends ofthe 165-1444 Vertical Gate Cylinders. If the hydraulics for the verticalgate cylinder circuit are incorrect, you may need to switch the hydraulichose connections at the 167-4456 Combination Valve and switch the electricalconnectors on the 165-7276 Vertical Gate Control Valve.
Use four 198-4944 Bolts to assemble thevalve group.
Connect the two wiring harnesses to thegate control valve.
Test and Adjust Gate Relief Valve: The following procedure requires two people. Left Side View of Gate Control Valve Right Side View of Gate ControlValve
Install a 0 to 10000 kPa (0 to 1500 psi)pressure gauge on the pressure tap for the vertical gate cylinders.
Turn the adjustment screw for the 198-1869Gate Relief Valve fully clockwise. Do not force the adjustment screw.
Tip down the cab. Remove the side panelfrom the machine so that you can reach the adjustment screws.
Start the engine. Turn the boom switchto the ON position.
Press the toggle switch to fully openthe grapple (this will allow the implement pump to upstroke).
Hold the grapple open switch while youadjust the pressure reducing valve for the vertical gate cylinders to 6500kPa (950 psi) (do not adjust the new 198-1869 Relief Valve at this time).
Continue to hold the grapple open switchwhile you turn the adjustment screw for the 198-1869 Relief Valve in thecounterclockwise direction. Stop turning the adjustment screw once youhear oil flowing through the valve. The 198-1869 Valve is now set to 6500kPa (950 psi).
Release the grapple open switch.
Turn the adjustment screw for the pressurereducing valve until you read 4500 kPa (650 psi) on the pressure gauge.
Stop the engine.
Remove the pressure gaugeand reinstall the guards.
