Regulator (1) is in the air line to the retarder hydraulic control valve. The regulator will limit the air pressure from the retarder air control valve to a maximum pressure of 450 34 kPa (65 5 psi).When the air pressure is 0 to 450 kPa (0 to 65 psi), the force of spring (2) on stem (3) keeps valve (10) away from seat (4). Air pressure goes through inlet passage (7) to air chamber (6). If valve (10) is held away from seat (4), air pressure can exit through delivery passage (8) to the inlet passage of the retarder hydraulic control valve. When air pressure from the retarder air control valve becomes higher than 450 34 kPa (65 5 psi), the following events happen. The air pressure in delivery passage (8) and the force of spring (9) move valve (10) against seat (4) against the force of spring (2). This stops the increase of pressure in the delivery passage.When the handle on the retarder air control valve is moved away from the operator, air pressure in inlet passage (7) decreases. As the air pressure decreases to 450 34 kPa (65 5 psi), the force of spring (2) on the diaphragm and the stem will move valve (10) away from seat (4). The air pressure in delivery passage (8) can then exit through inlet passage (7) to the exhaust passage of the retarder air control valve.
