Remove And Install Connecting Rod Bearings
start by: a) remove turbocharger lubrication valve1. Remove coolant from engine cooling system. 2. Remove breather assembly (1).3. Remove oil lines (4).4. Remove water line (2) and inspection covers (3). 5. Turn crankshaft and move connecting rod into position with tooling (A). 6. Remove the nuts (5) for connecting rod cap. 7. Remove cap (8) and lower half of bearing (7).8. Remove bolts (6) from the connecting rod and turn crankshaft away from connecting rod.9. Remove upper half of bearing from connecting rod.10. Do Steps 6 through 9 for the other connecting rod that is in position.11. Install the upper and lower halves of bearings in connecting rods and caps.12. Put clean oil on upper halves of bearings and crankshaft journals. Turn crankshaft into place in connecting rods with tooling (A). Install the bolts in connecting rods. 13. Measure the clearance between bearing and crankshaft with wire (B) as shown. Put the caps in position and install nuts.
Notch (9) in cap must be installed on same side as notch in connecting rod. Make sure head of bolts are in correct position in rod.
14. Tighten nuts to 75 5 lb. ft. (100 7 N m). Put a mark across bolt and nut. Tighten nuts 60° from marks on bolts. 15. Remove the caps and make a measurement of wire. Bearing clearance with new parts is .0035 to .0077 in. (0.089 to 0.196 mm). Maximum permissible clearance is .012 in. (0.03 mm).16. Put clean oil on lower halves of bearings. Put caps in position on rods and install nuts. Tighten nuts to 75 5 lb. ft. (100 7 N m). Put a mark across bolt and nut. Tighten nuts 60° from marks on bolts.17. Do Steps 5 through 16 for remainder of bearings. 18. Install inspection covers (10).19. Install water line (11) and oil lines (12). 20. Install breather assembly (13).21. Fill engine cooling system with coolant to correct level.end by: a) install turbocharger lubrication valve
