Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servicing or repair is performed.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Service Tool Catalog" or refer to Special Publication, PECJ0003, "Cat Shop Supplies and Tools Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The pressure must be removed from the hydraulic oil system before the filter can be serviced. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, System Pressure Release.
Illustration 1 g06265418The in-line backup pump filter is located close to the main valve, on upper part of the machine.
Access the maintenance platform at the top of the machine. Access through the second cab.
Remove the in-line filter from the filter housing.
Clean the filter housing. Inspect the O-ring seals of the filter housing. If damage or wear is found, replace the O-ring seals.
Install a new in-line filter into the filter housing.

Connect the hydraulic lines. Ensure that the in-line filter is connected with the direction of the oil flow. The oil flow is indicated by the arrow on the in-line filter.
