Remove Sea Water Pump (Marine Engine)
1. Remove four bolts (1) that hold the sea water pump to the flange. 2. Fasten a hoist to sea water pump (2). 3. Remove bolts (3) and the water pump. The weight of the water pump is 88 lb. (40 kg).Install Sea Water Pump (Marine Engine)
1. Fasten a hoist to sea water pump (1) and put it in position. Make sure the gasket between the pump and flywheel housing is in place. 2. Install the bolts that hold the sea water pump to the flywheel housing. 3. Put gasket (3) in position and install bolts (2) that hold the flange to the pump.Disassemble Sea Water Pump (Marine Engine)
start by:a) remove sea water pump 1. Remove sea water outlet chamber (1).2. Remove sea water inlet elbow (2). 3. Remove adapter (3). 4. Remove the impeller, shaft and housing assembly (4) from the water pump housing. 5. Bend the lock away from bolts (5). Remove bolts (5), the lock and retainer from the housing.6. Bend the lock away from locknut (6). Remove locknut (6) and the lock from the pump shaft.7. Remove the cotter pin, nut (10) and washer (9) from the pump shaft. 8. Lightly hit the impeller end of the pump shaft with a soft hammer and remove impeller (8) and spring (7) from the pump shaft. 9. Lightly hit the impeller end of the pump shaft with a soft hammer and remove pump shaft (11) and the bearing from the housing.10. Remove seal assembly (12) from the housing. 11. Use tooling (A) and a press to push the pump shaft out of bearing (13). 12. Remove O-ring seal (14) from the housing. Remove seal ring (15), the rubber cup and lip type seal from the housing.Assemble Sea Water Pump
1. Use tooling (A) to install the lip type seal in the housing so the lip of the seal will be toward the bearing. Put clean oil on the lip of the seal. 2. Use a press to push bearing (1) on to the pump shaft. Install the lock and locknut on the pump shaft. Install the nut with the chamfer toward the lock. Tighten the locknut to a torque of 65 10 lb.ft. (90 14 N m). Bend the lock against the locknut.3. Put shaft assembly (4) in position in housing (5) and install the retainer, lock and bolts that hold the shaft assembly in the housing.
Use only clean water as a lubricant in the assembly of the parts of the water pump seal. Do not damage or put hands on the wear surface of the tungsten carbide ring and washer.
4. Put water on seal ring (3), rubber cup (2) and the bore in housing (5). Use hand pressure only to install rubber cup (2) and seal ring (3) in the housing. The chamfer on seal ring (3) must be toward the impeller. Make sure the seal ring and rubber cup are against their seat in the housing.5. Install O-ring
