Information:

Flow loss when expressed as a percent of pump flow is used as a measure of pump performance.Example of finding percent of flow loss ... If the percent of flow loss is more than 10%, pump performance is not good enough.*Numbers in examples are for illustration and are not values for any specific pump or pump condition. See SPECIFICATIONS FOR 772B TRACTOR & 773B TRUCK STEERING SYSTEM, Form SENR7865, for pump flow of a new pump at 100 psi and 1000 psi.Test On The Machine
Install a Flow Meter. Run the engine at 2000 rpm. Measure pump flow at 100 psi (690 kPa) and at 1000 psi (6900 kPa). Use these values in Formula I.Formula I: Test On The Bench
If the test bench can be run at 1000 psi and at full pump rpm, find the percent of flow loss using Formula I.If the test bench can not be run at 1000 psi at full pump rpm, run the pump shaft at 1000 rpm. Measure the pump flow at 100 psi (690 kPa) and at 1000 psi (6900 kPa). Use these values in the top part of Formula II. For the bottom part of th formula, run the pump shaft at 2000 rpm. Measure the pump flow at 100 psi.Formula II: Relief Valve For Steering

Install the 5S4964 Pressure Plate Assembly on the 5S4648 Hose Assembly and install the other end of the hose in the valve.Remove bolts (1), the flange and hose to the rod end of the right side steering cylinder. Install the pressure plate with the hose, valve and pressure gauge between the flange and the steering cylinder. It may be necessary to use longer bolts (1) to install the pressure plate.Start and run the engine at high idle rpm. Look at the pressure gauge and turn the steering wheel for a right turn until it stops. Do not keep the steering wheel against the stop, at the high relief valve pressure, for more than 3 seconds. The high pressure reading on the gauge is the setting of the relief valve. The correct pressure setting is 2250 25 psi (15 500 170 kPa).
STEERING CYLINDER ON RIGHT SIDE
1. Bolts (four).Relief Valve Adjustments (Earlier)
If it is necessary to make an adjustment to the pressure setting of the relief valve, the thickness of the shims in cap (2) must be changed. Be careful when cap (2) is removed. The shims and spring for the pilot valve are in the cap. The pilot valve can be pushed out at the relief valve by the spring under the pilot valve seat.
FLOW CONTROL VALVE (Between Frame Near Left Side of the Engine)
