Operation
Illustration 1 g01012376To prevent the engine from overcooling, the engine automatically adjusts low idle. The low idle speed also changes in order to accelerate engine warm-up. The engine low idle speed is automatically elevated when the engine coolant is below 70 °C (158 °F). The engine speed is elevated to a set value when the engine coolant is below 70 °C (158 °F). The engine speed begins to decrease when the engine coolant temperature reaches 72 °C (162 °F). When the engine coolant temperature reaches 77 °C (171 °F) the engine speed is at low idle. The engine speed will start to increase if the engine coolant temperature falls below 75 °C (167 °F). The machine comes from the factory with the low idle set to 700 rpm.Activated
The following conditions must occur before the elevated low idle will activate:
The transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position.
The parking brake is in the ON position.
The ground speed of the machine is zero.
The engine has been running for at least 10 minutes.Note: When all the conditions have been met the elevated low idle will activate after thirty seconds.Deactivated
The following actions will deactivate elevated low idle:
The accelerator control (pedal) is depressed by more than 25 percent of the pedal's travel.
The manual ether switch is depressed.
The transmission is moved into gear.
The parking brake is disengaged.Note: If the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position and the parking brake is in the ON position, elevated low idle will activate again after 10 minutes.
