Personal injury can result from flame cutting or welding on painted areas.The effect of gasses from burned paint is a hazard to the person doing the cutting or welding.Do not flame cut or weld on painted areas.
Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can kill. Read and understand the manufacturer's instruction and your employer's safety practices. Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing zone and the general area. Wear correct eye, ear and body protection. Do not touch live electric parts.Refer to the American National Standard Z49.1, "Safety in Welding and Cutting" published by the American Welding Society, 2501 N.W. 7th Street, Miami, Florida 33125: OSHA Safety and Health Standards, 29 CFR 1910, available from U.S. Dept. of Labor, Washington D.C. 20210.

Remove the former bars (2) that are used to store the truck body retaining cable from both sides of the body.Note: Illustration 1 shows the bar in one side of the body.

(A) 1463 mm (57.6 inch) (W1) 8 mm (0.3 inch) flare bevel groove weld
Prepare the area for welding. For the proper procedure, refer to Special Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures".
Locate the new bars (1) at a distance of 1463 mm (57.6 inch) away from the outside vertical plate of the stringer rail on the respective side. The end of the rod should also contact the bottom side of the body floor.
Weld an 8 mm (0.3 inch) flare bevel groove weld (W1) on each side of the rod to the rib. Do not weld around the ends of the rod.The weld must meet the following specifications: AWS A5.1 E7018, AWS A5.18 ER70S-2, AWS A5.18 ER70S-3, AWS A5.18 ER70S-6, AWS A5.18 ER70C-6M, AWS A5.20 E70T-1, AWS A5.20 E70T-5, AWS A5.20 E71T-1, AWS A5.17 F7A2-EM12K and AWS A5.17 F7A2-EM13K.
Clean the welds and inspect the welds. For additional information on the inspection of the weld, refer to Special Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures".
