Hoist lever position sensor circuit
This diagnostic code indicates the Chassis ECM detects the hoist lever position sensor voltage is above normal. This diagnostic code could be caused by:
Power circuit failure
Ground circuit failure
Sensor failure
Open sensor signal circuit
ECM failureNote: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created codes and clear these created codes after the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure diagnostic code CID 0773 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SENSORDo not disconnect the harness connector from the sensor.
Turn on the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire 173-RD(Red)) to contact 2 (wire J878-YL(Yellow)). Expected Result:The voltage is between 9 and 32 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is between 9 and 32 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The voltage is not between 9 and 32 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 5.Test Step 2. CHECK FOR SENSOR GROUNDThe harness remains connected to the sensor.
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Remove the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe from the voltage supply wire (contact 1).
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the ground wire (contact 2).
Measure the resistance from contact 2 to frame ground. Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. The circuit is open. Repair: Replace or repair the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE SENSOR OUTPUTThe keyswitch and the disconnect switch remain off.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, remove the multimeter probe from contact 1. and
Insert the multimeter probe along the signal wire (contact 3).
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert the multimeter probe along the ground wire (contact 2).
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Measure the sensor signal.
Without disconnecting the sensor or sensor hardware from the machine, take the sensor through the full operating range. Expected Result:The sensor responds as described at the beginning of this procedure. Results:
OK - The sensor responds as described at the beginning of this procedure. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The sensor does not respond as described at the beginning of this procedure. The sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT AT THE ECM
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Insert the multimeter probes into the back of the ECM connector along J2-15 (wire M996-PK(Pink)) and J2-22 (wire J878-YL(Yellow)).
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Monitor the sensor signal with the multimeter.
