Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Remove the oil level gauge.

Remove bolts (4) from engine oil pan (1). Remove elbow (2) and the O-ring seal.
Provide support for engine oil pan (1). Remove bolts (3) and the washers from right side of engine oil pan (1).

Remove remaining bolts (3) and the washers that hold engine oil pan (1) in position.
Lower engine oil pan (1) from the cylinder block. The weight of engine oil pan (1) is approximately 115 kg (253 lb).
Remove the old gasket from engine oil pan (1).
